HONG KONG -- Jackie Chan has his 100th film project.
The Hong Kong-based action hero will star in and co-direct "Chinese Zodiac," an action caper with a budget set at 250 million yuan ($37 million), Chan told The Hollywood Reporter.
Produced by Emperor Motion Pictures subsidiary Emperor Dragon Movies, "Zodiac" will see Chan on a series of treasure hunts across the globe that are intricately linked with one of the major events in Chinese history.
"The theme of the film revolves around a subject close to the hearts of Chinese people around the world," Chan said, without revealing more of the plot.
The idea for "Zodiac" came to Chan six years ago, but his schedule did not allow him to work on the story until this year. Chan will co-direct with five-time collaborator Stanley Tong, who helmed such Chan starrers as "Rumble in the Bronx," "The Myth" and the third and fourth entries in the "Police Story" series.
In addition to the 100-picture milestone, the film marks the first time Chan has taken on directing duties since "Who Am I?" in 1998.
Filming is tentatively scheduled for the fall, with location shooting to take place in France, Vienna, Hong Kong, Beijing and Kazakhstan.
Before "Chinese Zodiac," Chan will begin shooting "Kung Fu Kid" in June in China, a reworking of "The Karate Kid" that co-stars Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith, who also is a producer of the film.
Mag Tong auch, aber hätte sich F. Chan auf seine ALTEN Stärken zurückbesonnen, hätte das womöglich ein gigantisches Actionfeuerwerk gegeben, so es denn J. Chans Knochen noch hergäben. Dennoch wird's unter Tongs Regie ein guter Film, davon bin ich überzeugt...
der olle Frankie hat zumindest am Drehbuch mitgewirkt soviel ich weiß... Mir wär er auf jedenfall auch lieber, seit The Myth zweifle ich einwenig am Können des Herrn Tong...
Offizieller Starttermin ist heute in genau einem Jahr - also der 12.12.12. Die Dreharbeiten in China sind fürs erste abgeschlossen. Momentan dürfte die Crew wieder in Frankreich sein, bevor es dann weitergeht zu den anderen Locations...
Wie beschissen nötig müssen es eigentlich Produktionsfirmen haben, wenn in den Credits zum Schluss als einziger Mensch Jackie Chan und dafür über zehn Firmennamen dastehen. Wegen denen schaut man sich natürlich einen Film an... Trailer ist in mieser Qualität und ruckelt, sieht aber schon recht vielversprechend aus, auch wenn mir ein echter ARMOUR OF GOD 3 lieber gewesen wäre.

Hmmm... also der neue "Trailer" lässt mich meine Erwartungen wieder nach unten korriegieren. Weiß nicht so recht, was ich davon halten soll... die Szene mit dem "Rollschuhanzug"... innovativ oder einfach nur dämlich? Tja man wird sehen...
